Progressive Education Web Resources
Critical insight concerning the state of American education from journalist Bill Moyers from Tom Paine.
The Canadian quarterly magazine Green Teacher is presently doing the best job (by far) of bringing together Progressive ideas and education. The internet site may be found at http://www.greenteacher.com.
The closest American equivalent to Green Teacher is probably Education Revolution, which unfortunately can sometimes be found advocating the least successful of the Progressive ideas concerning education.
Better in some ways, but trending toward the bland and somewhat conservative, and apparently terrified of innovation is Edutopia, which is funded by the George Lucas Educational Foundation. Like Education Revolution, in need of a strongereditorial and intellectual presence.
The best thing going in American education at the moment are Paideia schools, which received their impetus from American philosopher Mortimer Adler. Yet Adler was quite elderly when he initiated them, and there is something a little musty and out-of-touch with the approach here. If Paideia schools could be (strongly) nudged in the direction of the sort of education advocated at Green Teacher, they would be impressive indeed. The National Paideia Center web site can be found here.
